President Donald Trump signed a memorandum at the White House Tuesday to make it more difficult for illegal aliens to obtain Social Security numbers and benefits.
“TheSecretaryofLabor,theSecretaryofHealthandHumanServices,andtheCommissionerofSocialSecurity,inconsultationwiththeSecretaryofHomelandSecurityasnecessary,shalltakeallreasonablemeasures,consistentwithapplicablelaw,toensureineligiblealiensarenotreceivingfundsfromSocialSecurityActprograms,”thememostatesinpart.“SuchmeasuresshallincludepromulgatinganynecessaryguidanceorregulationsregardingSocialSecurityActfundsand,totheextentappropriateandconsistentwithlaw,prioritizingciviloradministrativeenforcementactionsagainstStates,localities,orothersimilargranteesorsubgranteesthatdonottakeadequatemeasurestoverifyeligibility,stoppaymentstodeceasedorotherwiseineligiblepayees,orotherwisepreventineligiblealiensfromreceivingfundsfromSocialSecurityActprograms.”
